When i start up my computer the fan runs real loud. I see that in a lot of posts. I cant find out what these two icons mean that flash on my screen. It looks like a blue happy face in a folder and a question mark. I have an imac g5 that i had to get the logic board replaced on a little while back that was covered by apple but now i am having this issue. Also when i put a startup disc in there and hold down c it goes to a screen saying i need to restart my computer and gives other kernal and darwin messages.

If you are comfortable doing it, disconnect your iMac from power, then open your iMac and make sure the RAM DIMMS are fully seated in their slots and any reachable cables (like the cables to your hard drive & superdrive) are firmly seated.
